It is with profound sorrow that I, on behalf of the leadership and membership of the Because Of Our Tomorrow (BOOT) Party, extend our deepest condolences to the families who lost loved ones in the accident that claimed the lives of the returning Kano State athletes from the just-concluded National Games, as well as to everyone killed or affected by the recent flooding in Mokwa Local Government Area of Niger State. We share your grief for the lives cut short, the homes destroyed, and the livelihoods swept away by these devastating waters. Our thoughts and prayers are with every displaced family as you struggle to rebuild amid this crisis.
These tragic incidents underscore, once again, the urgent need for both state and federal authorities to fortify our national emergency-response framework. Far too often, accident victims receive medical attention only after crucial delays, and communities in flood-prone areas are left to fend for themselves until disaster strikes. We must not wait for rivers to overflow—or for a collision to occur—before we act. Relevant agencies should implement comprehensive early-warning systems, clear evacuation protocols, and well-equipped relocation centres so that, upon credible intelligence of rising floodwaters, vulnerable populations can be moved to safety well in advance. Likewise, the road safety agency should incorporate hazard perception training into mandatory driver education programmes and enforce regular vehicle inspections as preventative measures against accidents.
Beyond government action, we urge community leaders, traditional rulers, and civil society organisations to unite in educating residents about simple, life-saving practices: how to recognise early signs of rising water levels, whom to contact in an emergency, and where to seek immediate shelter. Similarly, we call on drivers’ associations and transport unions to intensify awareness campaigns on safe driving practices—emphasising strict adherence to speed limits, routine vehicle maintenance, and responsible behaviour on all highways. By fostering a culture of readiness—rather than one of reactive lamentation—we can significantly reduce the human toll of both road accidents and future floods.
In this period of grief, let us remember that unity, compassion, and purposeful planning—including robust driver education—are our strongest defences against calamity. May God grant rest to the departed, comfort to the bereaved, and swift recovery to the injured and displaced. We continue to urge all levels of government to treat emergency management across our nation as a matter of the highest priority, carried out with efficiency and compassion.
Yours sincerely,
@SonnyAdenuga
