As a general note, it is important to inform and educate the Electorates that neither INEC nor any Government Agencies provide any form of funding for Political Parties. Party funding is essentially from non-government sources such as money-bags and sometimes other opaque sources. In BOOT Party, the basic source of funding is voluntary donations by members and well-meaning Nigerians that believe and align with the objectives of the Party. Because of the economic circumstances of Nigerians, members' donation to the Party is miniscule. National Working Committee members often levy themselves to finance the activities of the Party. BOOT Party is run entirely by volunteers. There is no member or officer of the Party that is remunerated financially.
From the foregoing background, it is evident that BOOT Party is not endowed with the sources of finance that Parties in government that have unrestricted access to the nation's coffers do. BOOT Party is a Technology And People (TAP) driven. The Party has been able to curtail its expenditure by enabling a very powerful technology platform that allows all Party events, including voting at Primary Elections; holding meetings, accounting, etc. to be facilitated without necessarily incurring humongous expenditure that is the albatross of all other Political Parties. Apart from our different and distinct strategy to address the problems of Nigeria; using technology is what clearly separate BOOT Party from others. It is our fervent belief that if Nigerians keep doing it the same way, they will keep getting same obnoxious results. BOOT Party will continue to differentiate itself from the CROWD through our well thought-out and research supported decisions.
Now back to why BOOT Party DID NOT and shall NOT nominate Polling Agents for Anambra Elections and others, the first reason is the financial burden. There are presently 176,846 INEC-designated Polling Booths across the nation. In a Presidential Election, for example, BOOT Party would need N884M (Eight Hundred and Eighty-Four Million Naira) to man all the Polling Booths if each Polling Agent is remunerated at the rate of N5,000 each. Where is the money? In Anambra State, there are 5,720 polling Booths which would have cost the Party the sum of N28M (Twenty-Eight Million Naira) if each Polling Agent is remunerated at the rate of N5,000 each to monitor the election. We know, and everybody does that these paid Polling Agents are compromised by the Parties in power and often aid and abet the manipulation of results. Why would one pay somebody to go and undermine you?
More importantly, BOOT Party believes that INEC is responsible for ensuring that ballots are cast, counted and accounted for whether or not Polling Agents are present. We believe INEC is up to the task and we are more convinced that room for manipulation of results in transit has been narrowed or eliminated by the newly enacted law approving Electronic Transmission of Results by INEC. It is also our belief that if the other seventeen parties (17) that have the financial muscles having Polling Agents as publicised at various Polling Boots in Anambra Elections, the absence of an Agent representing BOOT Party would make no difference.
In conclusion, all the above factors have led the BOOT Party to the decision to deploy its financial resources where it would have the most impact than to be helping INEC to do its fundamental duty of monitoring elections at the Polling Booths. Therefore, BOOT Party DID NOT and SHALL NOT appoint paid agents at Polling Booths. However, if the Party is able to attract volunteers that are willing to act as Agents at the Polling Booths, such opportunity shall be explored to the fullest.
Thank you and God bless you and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
