Dear Elders, Sisters and Brothers,

As our part-time leaders are gradually coming to terms with COVID-19 pandemic, we thank our health workers who are putting their lives at risk to safeguard the health and welfare of Nigerians. To the hapless Nigerians who have been infected or lost their loved ones, our thoughts and prayers are with you.

For now, our watchword is 'prevention is better than cure' more so that there is no known cure for now. The only cure for the menace is to heed the advice of the medical experts particularly on social distancing, that is, staying at least 2 metres away from people you are not living with.

The world's best equipped health systems are unable to cope with this scourge not to imagine how our dilapidated health system would quickly collapse with the minimum load. Please stay indoors and with your loved ones.

BOOT Party remains committed to continuing our democracy work, but would advice that all political (and non-political) activities involving gathering and person-to-person contacts be suspended for now.

We demand that all levels of governments be responsible and responsive to the impending health needs of Nigerians. Organisations should be directed to review their personnel health circumstances and encourage high-risk individuals to self-isolate. Some banks are already demanding some of their employees to proceed on unpaid leave due to no fault of theirs. This is in the least a crass and injurious decision lacking empathy. This is not acceptable and unpatriotic. Such organisations shall be named and shamed in due course.

We all need to collectively make governments and organisations accountable for the welfare and well-being of the citizenry.

The BOOT Party encourages our members to continue to Listen, Learn and Lead. We wish you well in strength and safety during these difficult times.

Signed
Office of the BOOT Party National Chairman
