The reported decision for Aso Rock to exit the national grid is nothing short of alarming and deeply troubling. It exposes, in the clearest terms, the widening gulf between those in the highest levels of government and the millions of ordinary Nigerians who continue to endure darkness, erratic power supply, and escalating electricity tariffs.
At a time when citizens and businesses are struggling daily with the failures of our power sector, it is both shameful and unacceptable that the seat of government would seek refuge from the very system it is constitutionally obligated to fix and make functional for all Nigerians.
One must ask: has the government become so detached from the realities of the people that it now chooses insulation over responsibility? Must it be only poor Nigerians who are expected to make sacrifices? Leadership requires setting the example. This move sends the wrong signal about national priorities and undermines the principle of shared responsibility and collective sacrifice.
Having presided over the privatisation of the power sector, can it now simply wash its hands of the consequences and retreat into comfort while the nation groans under systemic failure?
Leadership demands accountability, not escape. If the national grid is unreliable and expensive for Aso Rock, then it is certainly unbearable and expensive for the average Nigerian.
This decision, if implemented, represents a new low in governance and sends the wrong signal about commitment to solving the country's energy crisis. We call on the government to reconsider this course of action and focus instead on delivering sustainable, reliable electricity to all Nigerians.
The BOOT Party says Aso Rock should complete the solar project but distribute the energy to adjoining neighbourhoods in Abuja instead
Yours sincerely,
