In any large electoral dataset—particularly one covering more than 2,000 polling units, as in the recently concluded FCT election—basic statistical principles remind us that natural human processes inevitably produce small, random irregularities.
Analytical frameworks such as Benford's Law show that large bodies of naturally generated numbers rarely display perfect uniformity. Indeed, the total absence of minor clerical errors would be statistically more suspicious than the presence of a few.
If fewer than five clerical errors were recorded across over 2,000 polling units, this represents a 99 percent-plus accuracy rate. From both statistical and audit perspectives, such consistency points to due diligence and procedural discipline—not manipulation.
Minor human errors are unavoidable in any operation conducted at scale. What would warrant serious concern is not the existence of small discrepancies, but unnatural numerical patterns or digit distributions inconsistent with expected statistical behaviour. There is no credible evidence indicating such anomalies in the FCT election results.
The NYSC members deployed to polling units under the supervision of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) appear to have discharged their responsibilities with professionalism and care. In an environment where electoral officials are often quickly criticised, it is important to recognise diligence when it is evident.
Furthermore, INEC, through the official statement of the FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Aminu Idris, reaffirmed that "total votes entered [into BVAS] do not exceed the number of accredited voters." This safeguard serves as a critical mitigating control and has significantly reduced practices such as ballot box snatching. It is no coincidence that where systemic controls improve, electoral malpractice shifts toward other tactics such as vote buying.
The more pressing issue arising from the FCT election is not statistical irregularity—it is low voter turnout. Democratic legitimacy is strengthened by broad participation. When turnout declines, the health of the democratic process—not merely the arithmetic of results—must become the focus of national concern.
Persistent and sweeping allegations made without credible evidence risk inflicting long-term damage on public trust. A culture of reflexive rejection—where outcomes are condemned irrespective of proof—erodes voter confidence and ultimately deepens apathy. This does not benefit opposition parties such as ours, nor does it strengthen those who broadly dismiss electoral outcomes as inherently flawed, which consequently undermine our democracy. Public grandstanding may generate headlines, but it also fosters doubt and discourages civic engagement.
The BOOT Party has consistently directed its concerns through institutional channels, engaging INEC directly rather than seeking to score cheap public points. We understand that reckless rhetoric contributes to voter disillusionment and depresses participation.
The BOOT Party accepts the outcome of the FCT election not because we do not have concerns, again we will direct it to INEC.
Politics remains dynamic. One year from the 2027 General Election is a substantial period in any political cycle. Realignments, grassroots mobilisation, policy development, and strategic engagements are already underway. The BOOT Party will actively participate in the 2027 General Elections with renewed focus and strengthened structures.
Our commitment remains unwavering: constructive engagement, institutional strengthening, evidence-based discourse, and responsible preparation for the continued growth of Nigeria's democracy.
Yours sincerely,
Sonny Adenuga
